Allbirds Tree Breezers Review: The Best Flats for Walking

Flats are the shoes that I buy and replace almost yearly. For one, I’ve always been stingy to invest in a high-quality pair since I wear out my shoes pretty quickly. However, at some point, I realized that the cost of me buying a new pair each year does add up, so I decided it was time to get a pair that lasts. There is no shortage of ‘comfy’ options out there. For me, my intro to lightweight flats started with a pair of Skechers. (I also later tried Rothy’s – read my Rothy’s vs Allbirds Review here) If I am being honest, my Allbirds still win in terms of comfort. Read on for my full Allbirds Tree Breezers review.

ALLBIRDS TREE BREEZERS FEATURES

Their product page lists all of this information in great detail here.

  • Upper Material: Made from responsibly sourced eucalyptus fibers, making it very breathable. The material is knitted, with a ribbed collar to fit your feet snugly.
  • Insole: Cushioned side made from castor bean oil, and fabric side made from Merino wool.
My Allbirds Tree Breezers in Color ‘Salt / Grey Sole’ with removable foam insole made from castor bean oil.
  • Outsole: Made from a foam that is derived from sugarcane. Good contour, and does not feel slippery.
  • Packaging: Arrives in the original shoe box, to minimize waste.
Allbirds ships in their shoebox to minimize packaging waste.

PICKING YOUR COLOR

This decision was really hard because the Tree Breezer comes in so many different colors, and shades. I personally went for grey, and the difference in all their options really comes down to how warm and dark you want the color to be. After much debating, I chose color ‘Salt (Grey Sole)‘ – (first pair below). It has a cooler tone than the other shades are grey, and is medium-light. (Update on 2/23/23 – It looks like colors change every year, so keep an eye out on their new neutral shades)

MY HONEST ALLBIRDS TREE BREEZERS REVIEW

These shoes are comfy. I did not need to time to break into these flats at all, which is rare. Most flats I buy either cause blisters, or don’t feel supportive enough for walking longer distances. However, Allbirds Tree Breezers did not cause me any discomfort from the first day I wore them. (I took the chance and walked over 2 miles in them, without any bandaids on hand) They pass the test! Not to mention, the foam outsole definitely adds a little buoyancy to my step and gives extra support I don’t get from most flats.

I love their shape. In general, I’m a fan of the pointy-toe flat. While Allbirds Tree Breezers has a rounded toe shape, I did appreciate that the ribbed collar gives the shoes a slimming illusion. It also provides extra stretch to accommodate wider feet. I found this shape to be a happy medium, where it was neither too narrow nor too wide.

They do not cause your feet to stink. This point made the biggest difference between Allbirds and the other fabric flats I’ve tried. The secret lies in the insoles. Because Allbirds uses Merino wool on their insoles, this material helps prevent against bad odors. Wool is hygroscopic, meaning it is able to absorb and release water vapor easily based on the surrounding humidity. As a result, it reduces the chance for bacteria to develop and cause a stink.

Below is comparison between my Allbirds Tree Breezers and my Skechers Cleo flats. Both use a knit fabric for the upper material. However, the key difference is the Allbirds is much more lightweight and the insole is removable and made from wool. I found this pair to be much more breathable, and did not smell after multiple wears. The price of my Tree Breezers was almost double my Skechers pair.

CARE TIPS FOR YOUR ALLBIRDS TREE BREEZERS

Washing your flats. You can plop your Breezers into a a delicates bag and wash them in the laundry. Just remove the insoles, and wash those by hand. Do not place these shoes in the dryer, as they might shrink.

Keep the inserts. I like to keep these handy in order to help my shoes retain shape in between wears.

SPECIAL ALLBIRDS OFFER

I am excited to share that I am an Allbirds Affiliate Partner! (I fell in love with the brand prior to joining the program, and these shoes are not gifted) If you check out using my link, you can receive a free pair of socks with any shoes or apparel purchase. (No code needed, will apply at check-out) This is a special offer since to my knowledge, Allbirds rarely runs promotions or sales. Definitely take advantage of this offer if you are considering grabbing a pair.

Hope you enjoyed my Allbirds Tree Breezers review. While I have not tried their other styles, I am definitely excited to get their Runners one day when my current sneakers wear out. I did not share any styling tips this time, since I wanted my review to be more focused on the product quality. However, you can check out my earlier Spring round-up to see how I wore these flats.
