Around two years ago, I was making a big career pivot that came with a lot of stress. As such, I noticed my hair volume was nowhere near as lush as it used to be. I lost clumps when I showered, brushed, slept…and my hair part grew noticeably wider. Then I stumbled upon Vegamour in an ad. It was the first hair growth product I had seen that didn’t require me to take pills, so I was curious! I documented my journey every month for 6 months to see if it actually works. Read on for my Vegamour before and after journey.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND VEGAMOUR HAIR CARE
One surprising fact about Vegamour is that it is a vegan haircare brand backed by biotechnology. The brand partnered with an innovative materials science company Bolt Threads, the first company to commercialize bioengineered spider silk. Specifically, Vegamour names this active ingredient vegan b-SILK™ protein.
It has many restorative benefits: replenishes hair cuticles, protects follicles from pollution, and creates a moisturizing barrier for the hair. In contrast to keratin (a common protein in haircare products), b-SILK™ adheres to the hair follicles, rather than washing off in the shower.
Vegamour estimates up to 52% more density and 76% less shedding in using its hair serums.
VEGAMOUR GRO VS. GRO+ HAIR SERUM
I first started my hair growth journey with Vegamour in March 2021 with their basic GRO Hair Serum. The serum has a subtle and pleasant botanical scent, and 1 bottle lasted me around 3 months. (Note: I’ve heard some people say theirs only lasted them 1-2 months) I applied only once in the evenings, and did not fill my dropper all the way to the top. The product absorbs quickly into my scalp, and did not leave behind any sleek or greasy residue.
Once I was finished with this bottle, I tried the GRO+ Serum. At a slightly elevated price point ($58/bottle), this serum contains micro-encapsulated CBD, while all other ingredients remain the same. CBD supposedly soothes the scalp, and allows the other active ingredients to reach your roots more effectively. This option is suggested for those with moderate to severe hair loss. However, I bought it to see if it would have a more dramatic effect than their regular GRO Serum.
Aside from the ingredient differences, you will notice that the GRO Serum is a much clearer liquid. The GRO+ Serum is more opaque, explained by the presence of full-spectrum CBD. I love the smell of the GRO Serum a lot more. However, the consistency of both serums was similar.
HOW TO APPLY GROWTH SERUM TO YOUR HAIR
I applied serum once in the evening, with the dropper around half to three-quarters full. It is suggested that you target your problem areas first, so for me, I started along my hair part.
Be mindful to tilt your head back a little as you apply the serum, or the liquid can start rolling down quickly. Immediately after, I would use the scalp massager to work the serum into my scalp.
Vegamour Before & After Photos: Does it actually work?
After 6 diligent months of applying Vegamour daily, I am excited to share my results. Here are my Vegamour before and after photos that you came here for.
March to May: These images record my experience using the Vegamour GRO Hair Serum.
June to August: These images were taking after using the Vegamour GRO+ Hair Serum.
MY VERY HONEST THOUGHTS
The brand suggests optimal results within 90-days of using the product. By May, I definitely saw a significant improvement in my hair density. As I was combing my hair, I noticed many baby hairs begin to emerge along my hairline, and most noticeably, in the front. Based on the images I took from March to May, my hair looked fuller with each passing month. My hair part also began to narrow with using GRO Serum.
From June to August, I transitioned to using the GRO+. At this point, I noticed that my baby hairs in the front had grown to their full length. However, my hair density did not seem to improve significantly from May.
In late June, I also got a scalp sunburn from the beach, which I theorize contributed to some hair loss. Even so, my hair density appeared to have peaked in May but stabilized in the months after. While I expected to continue accumulating more hair, I do think our hair density hits capacity at some point.
WOULD I RECOMMEND VEGAMOUR TO A FRIEND?
In a word: yes. I would recommend Vegamour to friends looking for a remedy to hair loss. It is no quick fix, but it did deliver visible results for me. I did not see a significant difference with using GRO+ and because it is more expensive, I have continued using the regular GRO serum. If you are skeptical of the product, I highly recommend trying it for at least 3 months to see an effect. Remember to take photos, so you have something you can compare to!
Update: (June 2023) Two years later, I am still using Vegamour for continued care. I think it is a product that I will routinely incorporate into my hair care routine from now on.
