Sustainable Swim Brand + Other Affordable Options

After feeling cooped up all of last year, I am definitely excited to start traveling again. While I don’t have any big trips planned, I wanted this summer to be filled with little getaways from New York City. First stop: the beach! A few months ago, Londre Bodywear generously gifted me their Sport Scoop and High-Waisted Bottom. I normally stick to one-pieces, but let’s just say I’ve been excited to wear this set all summer. If you are looking for sustainable swim brands this season, you may fall in love with this one!

*Disclaimer: Swimsuit was gifted, but all opinions are my own. Blog post is not sponsored.

THE STORY BEHIND LONDRE BODYWEAR

Since breaking up with fast fashion a few years ago, I have been intentional about the pieces I introduce into my closet. I shared a little bit about this journey in the beginning of 2021. Swimsuits are pretty seasonal, which for me, felt even more important to keep in good shape. I wanted a high-quality piece I could wear year after year.

Londre is a female-founded swimwear brand made from recycled plastic bottles. To date, their styles have incorporated over 200,000 plastic bottles recycled off of beaches and streets. The water used in the production process is able to be reused, and the swimsuit can be recycled as well. You can also read more about their environmental impact here.

When I first received the package, I immediately saw a brand that remained consistent to its sustainable values. The swimsuit arrived in a crinkly package, which I learned is compostable and made from corn. Unlike most brands, the packaging was minimal. No excessive tissue paper (which FYI, is not recyclable).

STYLE OF THIS SUSTAINABLE SWIM BRAND

Of the sustainable swimwear brands I have seen, most are pretty minimalistic and come in neutral colors. While Londre does offer similar aesthetics, I appreciate that they offer more sophisticated details, such as plunging necklines, versatile waist ties, and ruffles. Elegant, sexy, simple. Whichever look you are aiming for, you can probably build it with their amazing mix and match assortment.

They offer some common colors: black, white, Barbie pink, red, and clay. More recently, Londre Bodywear has also added a limited edition floral print (which I wish existed a months ago!). Another piece I have been eyeing is their Cinch One-Piece, which is recently restocked!

The final detail I love about their website is the use of size-inclusive and racially diverse models.

LONDRE BODYWEAR SWIMSUIT FIT REVIEW

I mentioned earlier that I normally wear one-pieces. It is just something I feel more comfortable with, and growing up swimming competitively, I love that I can move freely in them without the fear of something untying. However, I am happy I went out of my comfort zone this time by choosing their Sport Scoop and High-Waisted Bottom set instead.

Sport Scoop: Reading the reviews, I went with the Sport Scoop because it seemed to offer decent coverage out of all the bikini top options. There are side pockets that allow you to add your own padding. I use these inserts from Fashion Forms, and they pair perfectly.

Fit felt true to size, and I ordered both pieces in a size S. The top feels supportive because it is double-layered for extra compression. As someone who is terrified of my bikini top undoing itself in the water, this piece feels very secure.

High-Waisted Bottom: Same compressive fabric as the Sport Scoop, with a center seam. Not too revealing, but this detail does add a little curve contouring, which I find flattering. Finally, the bikini bottom comes with a separate waist tie, which you can tie as a simple knot or a bow. I love that the high-waist completely tucks in my stomach, and offers a decent amount of coverage for someone who is looking for a bikini on the more conservative side.

OTHER AFFORDABLE PIECES YOU CAN MIX & MATCH WITH

Londre Bodywear does come at a higher price point than regular swimsuits. So if you are not ready to buy a full set, I find their colors to be versatile enough to match with other affordable brands. Here are some basic scoop neck and high-waisted bikini bottoms to mix and match:

OTHER SUSTAINABLE SWIM BRANDS TO CONSIDER THIS SUMMER

This blog post was not meant to be a round-up of sustainable swim brands. However, given that swimwear is a very personal product, I wanted to share a handful of more resources. Rather than listing out brands myself, I recommend checking out these articles from Good On You:

In fact, Good On You was where I first read about Londre and became intrigued with the brand! It is a pretty well-trusted publication for sustainability novices and gurus. I hope you find this post helpful for your summer travels, and poolside adventures this season!

Thank you Londre for gifting me this swimsuit. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
