After enduring two full years of the pandemic, I was blessed to finally witness some of my friends get married this season. Unfortunately, with moving apartments and selling a lot of clothes to conserve space, I just don’t own that many formal dresses anymore. It took a few tries (and returns), but I was glad to finally find a few that worked. If you are looking for summer wedding guest outfit ideas, here are some maxi dress options that I loved.
SUMMER WEDDING GUEST DRESSES FROM PETAL & PUP
Petal + Pup is a boutique brand that really blew up this year. I first heard of them through other bloggers, and finally decided to give them a try. To be honest, the brand is a small step up from fast-fashion brands. Quality was a hit-or-miss, and I ended up returning 2 out of 3 dresses. However, their Freya Dress was the one I fell in love with.
I loved the detailed floral print, and self-tying shoulder straps. However, the brand runs tiny, so I made sure to size up. Wearing 4 for reference, which is a little roomy. I ordered a different style in size 2 last time, and it was way too tight, so I didn’t want to repeat the same mistake.
Petal + Pup tends to run out-of-stock quickly in popular styles, so here are a few other similar styles with good ratings.
MZ WALLACE QUILTED CROSSBODY
I was so happy when MZ Wallace launched with a chain crossbody bag. Their new Ruby crossbody was the perfect purse for a wedding, and complemented the dress very well. (Also worn HERE)
ASTR the LABEL: Romantic Florals
ASTR the Label definitely hit all the right notes this season with their romantic floral prints. They are best known for their Gaia slip dress. However, the cowl neck didn’t look flattering on me, so I decided to give their other styles a try and they did not disappoint!
Most of their dresses have a cut-out detail, which I was nervous would be too revealing. After attending a few weddings, however, I can confirm it is a growing trend 😉 To be honest, multiple styles caught my eye, but I loved the color of this floral print the best. (Wearing the Frolic Floral Cut-Out Maxi Dress in size S) The back is self-tie, and adjustable to your torso. There is also a hook in the front to keep the neckline from being too revealing.
A few notes: I did not find this dress to be petite-friendly. For reference, I am 5’6″ and still caught myself stepping on the skirt at times. It doesn’t mean this dress can’t work on a petite frame, but the length may need to be altered. Secondly, I wore a sticky bra with this style, so that is another consideration if you don’t already own one.
If shipping and returns weren’t a factor, here are a few others I would have tried. Aren’t the colors so beautiful?
SUMMER WEDDING GUEST OUTFIT: NUDE HEELS
Finding comfy shoes for a wedding is not so easy. My go-to has always been nude block heel sandals, which again, was a popular option based on what I saw others wear. Here are a few affordable ones I recommend:
Hope this post gives you some good inspiration for your next summer wedding guest outfit!
