As someone who is particular about her fabrics, I can’t believe how long I’ve been sleeping on Spanx. The brand is definitely a splurge, but I waited until their summer sale to score some great pieces. From their latest AirEssentials Pique collection, to their new AirEssentials workwear pieces, this blog post deep dives what I love (and didn’t) about their designs. Keep reading for the full Spanx jumpsuit and romper review that goes beyond what their website details!

You’ll see a lot of Amazon dupes on the market, and having tried both, I can confirm that Spanx AirEssentials is a cut above the rest. Spanx uses something called a ‘spacer fabric’ that is a blend of modal, polyester, and spandex. How I’d best describe the material: It’s soft, foamy, cool-to-the-touch with just the right amount of stretch.
The ‘modal’ component is what adds to the cooling and soft effect. Then we have the ‘spacer’ fabric structure that contributes to the ‘foamy’ soft feel. Compared to traditional knit fabrics, AirEssentials has a unique 3D structure created by knitted fabric layers interconnected by ‘spacer’ yarns. Apart from the technology, I can’t speak highly enough about how great the fabric feels against the skin!
I recently ordered the SPANX AirEssentials® Tie-Waist Jumpsuit in Navy XS, in search of the perfect one-and-done work outfit. This jumpsuit comes with their ‘Take Off’ technology, which is a hidden back slit that allows for easier bathroom breaks. The pant leg is slightly cropped, and wide leg so for a workwear look, I like styling it with a pointed-toe flat or block heel. For a more casual look, swap it for a white / neutral fashion sneaker.
You can see below for how their ‘Take Off’ design works. The inner waistband is elasticized and sits flat around your full waist. I found XS to be the right fit, and not too constraining after a full day of wear. However, as someone with a shorter torso and longer legs, I found this jumpsuit harder to remove than their other styles that have a zipper in the bodice. I didn’t smudge my makeup to remove this jumpsuit, but it did mess up my hair.
Judging by the comments, I am surprised not many others had the same issue. So it is possible that my body proportions are to blame! If you’re concerned about this, Spanx has two other styles that are a pull-on design where it would not be an issue: Cap Sleeve Cinched Jumpsuit, CarryOn Square Neck Jumpsuit. There’s also a Maxi Dress version of this jumpsuit that looks super comfortable.
Outside of their workwear styles, Spanx has more laidback options from their AirEssentials and AirEssentials Pique collection that I’ve been enjoying for weekends, travel, and errand runs. Their AirEssentials Pique designs launched earlier this spring, but went on sale very quickly which makes me think it may not come back next year. That said, I loved the sporty chic vibes from every piece in this collection!
I procrastinated with my review, and this jumpsuit is a whopping $59 with most sizes already sold out in Navy. (I will link other similar options below) I love this athletic-inspired design, with the modern contrast piping which elongates the legs. I am just under 5’6″ and the regular inseam worked perfectly. That said, I agree with reviewers who say Spanx bottoms run long. Depending on your ratio and height, they have other inseam options.
I also find the stand-collar to be higher than I would like to so I enjoy folding it down. This jumpsuit comes with pockets, and has a slightly textured ‘pique’ surface. Additionally, it has the same ‘Take Off’ design technology as the styles I shared previously.
One of the best summer sale items from the brand, hands-down! I love their bright, light ‘Fennel’ color and many sizes are still in-stock. Since this romper is older than their other designs, this style does not come with the ‘Take Off’ technology. However, I find it extremely easy to take on / off with the half zip feature. Such an easy-to-wear, and comfy silhouette! I received a few compliments on it just wandering around the city running weekend errands.
I hope you enjoyed this Spanx jumpsuit and romper review, and I will update this post as I try newer pieces from the brand!
