3 Space-Saving Products You Need to Organize Your Closet

At the start of 2022, I decided to embark on a no-buy quarter. For three months, I will buy no new clothes, and instead, restyle what I already own. While this journey can look different for everyone, I decided that the most logical first step for me was to organize my closet. How can I effectively ‘shop my closet‘ if I am not familiar with everything that is already in it? I purchased a handful of organizational products for my apartment move last year, and given how helpful they have been even a year later, I thought I would share them with you! Here are some space saving closet tips that help me to maximize wardrobe space, and better see what I already own.

SPACE SAVING HANGERS (VERTICAL & CASCADING)

If you own multiple tops, skirts, or pants, vertical hangers save so much space. Instead of hanging each piece next to one another, you can stack them. What I like to do is organize my clothes by type (e.g. bottom, or top) as well as color (e.g. reds/pinks, blues, neutrals). That way, whenever I think of reaching for a certain color, I can clearly see all of my options. This array increases my chances of wearing everything in my closet more often.

I wrote a review last year on hanger types (HERE), but below are some of my heavy-duty favorites.

CREATE EXTRA CLOSET SPACE WITH SWEATER BOXES

Sweaters are tricky to manage because they require to be folded (to prevent out-stretching). However, some are also too thick to fit inside of a drawer. I like to use sweater boxes for additional space, and reserve these for really thick pieces. The one I use has a clear panel in the front, so you can see which sweaters you’ve stored inside. It is a great way to keep your precious knits in a moth, and dust-proof space.

Tip: Place these in a prominent location within your closet so you do not forget about them! I love both of the color options offered below.

SPRING-LOADED EXPANDABLE DRAWER DIVIDERS

These drawer dividers do minimal damage to your dresser and create extra lanes for your clothes. Having a proper area where each item belongs ensures that you are packing the drawer effectively, and minimizing lost space. For me, I enjoy using the divider to separate short and long sleeve tops. I also use it to separate hosiery from other intimates (e.g. panties, bras, socks).

Visually, I can also see everything I own a lot better this way.

EXTRA SPACE SAVING CLOSET TIP: USE THE MARI KONDO FOLDING METHOD

I posted a reel (HERE) on my journey with reorganizing my dresser, and after trying out the KonMari folding technique, I halved the amount of space I originally needed to store all of my workout clothes. Now, it is the method I can’t live without and is quite therapeutic too!

If you are looking for space saving closet tips that don’t require spending any extra money, the Mari Kondo fold is definitely something to try. You can watch a simple tutorial here.

ADDITIONAL CLOSET STORAGE ITEMS I USE

Aside from sharing some of my favorite space saving closet tips, I have a few other beautifully designed storage items I own. What feels better than an organized, and modern-looking closet?

  • Linen Storage Box: I love the neutral aesthetic of these boxes. Very clean appearance, and stores my extra bedsheets and linens.
  • Stackable Jewelry Box: Comes in super beautiful, soft feminine colors. I use this box to keep all my earrings, and necklaces.
  • Nordic Storage Baskets: Clean, and sleek storage boxes with a lovely bamboo lid.
