Sezane Linen Review: Allya Dress & Kenny Shorts

Since making my first Sézane purchase in Paris earlier this year, I totally understand the obsession with the brand. Their romantic capsules, chic designs, and captivating details really set the brand apart. My first purchase is their Betty Cardigan (review HERE), and I loved it so much that I decided to add a few more pieces to my collection for summer. In this post, I will review two of their linen pieces: Allya Dress, and floral Kenny Shorts. As someone who is newer to the brand, I struggled to find my right size. So if you are in the same boat, I hope you will find this Sezane linen review helpful!

Sézane Allya Linen Blend Dress Review

The Allya Dress is one of the first pieces to catch my attention from their Spring/Summer drop. I love the bright ‘Aria’ print, which feels like a hybrid of paisley and florals. The style came as described, and is definitely a keeper in my books! However, here are some tips for finding your best fit.

Size: If you are in-between two sizes, I would recommend sizing down (wearing Size 2 here). I originally ordered this dress in a US 4, thinking it would run small. The waist was just a tiny bit loose, but the neckline and shoulder drop height were both too long for my proportions. I ended up returning it for a US 2, where the waist was just right and the bodice fit once I tightened the back.

Fit: As someone with a smaller torso and bust, I can almost never find a square neckline that fits well. Thankfully, this dress comes with a self-tying back, which you can adjust. Tying it securely helped to minimize any gaping in the front. The trickiest part is tying it yourself. Pro Tip: Wear the dress backwards first, and fasten the tie in the front. Then shift the dress back.

Fabric Quality: This dress is made with 55% linen, 45% cotton. I thought this composition was a tasteful choice because adding a bit of cotton helps to soften the fabric, and wrinkle less. After sitting for some time, I do notice creases but comparatively less than something that is pure linen. (The print also helps to conceal wrinkles)

Lastly, this dress is lined in the bodice, but not the skirt. Again, since this dress has a bold print, I didn’t find this skirt to be see-through, so a full lining is unneeded.

Sézane Kenny Linen Floral Shorts Review

Shorts (Size 2) | White Fitted Cropped Tee (S – Similar) | Bucket Bag

The second piece I wanted to share in my Sezane linen review are the Kenny Shorts. I am much more a dresses person in the summertime because I love a one-and-done outfit. However, I wanted to try something new and the Kenny Shorts felt fun and feminine.

Size: Having learned my lesson with the Allya Dress, I ordered this one in a US 2. The fit was perfect! The website says to choose the bigger size, if you’re in-between sizes. However, I was fine with the smaller of two sizes, and did not find sizing up to be necessary.

Fit: These high-waisted shorts have a side zipper, which can be a less forgiving design. Even so, I was glad the US 2 fit me perfectly. The Kenny Shorts are lightweight and structured, without feeling too fitted.

I would choose this pair over the Roma Shorts (another one that I tried) if you like a more tailored look! However, choose the Roma Shorts if you’re looking for something more casual and versatile. They come in both classic solids, and a floral print which I linked below.

Fabric Quality: Similar to the Allya Dress, the Kenny Shorts are also 55% linen and 45% cotton. Despite the same composition, these shorts are made with a lighter-weight fabric than the Allya Dress. I love how light and easy they feel! Both the linen-cotton blend and print help to make wrinkles look less prominent. So if that is a concern, I would say this pair still looks neat after some extended wear.

The Kenny Shorts are also come with a coordinating button-down: Max Shirt. Wouldn’t the two pieces make the cutest red floral set? Otherwise, styling it with a white top works just as a well!

Additional Sézane Picks for the Summer

Although this Sezane linen review was limited to the two pieces I really enjoyed, there are more from the collection that caught my eye. One thing I love is that the brand incorporates the same print into multiple pieces. So in case the silhouettes I shared are not a good fit for you, here are some other options you can consider!

  • Linen & Linen-Cotton Dresses

  • Additional Pieces in the ‘Aria’ Print – same fabric, but different silhouettes

  • Shorts
