3 Favorite Uses of The Laundress’ Scented Vinegar

A few weeks ago, The Laundress had an awesome flash sale just in time for fall cleaning. I haven’t tried much of their other products, but knew I had to restock on their Scented Vinegar! It’s one of my favorite scented, eco-friendly cleaning products, and it’s super versatile to use. Since I received a few questions from you guys on what this product is actually used for, I wrote a short post on my three favorite uses of The Laundress’ Scented Vinegar.

SHOP MY POST: Scented Vinegar | Wool & Cashmere Shampoo (Two Laundress products I’ve tried, and love)

One thing I will clarify: Scented Vinegar it is not a detergent, and no it is not a shampoo 🙂 It’s actually just a simple, eco-friendly deodorizing and cleaning solution.

While I am no cleaning guru, I do know that vinegar is a very common ingredient in DIY cleaning recipes. It just gets the job done. The acidity helps to cut down grease and grime, but also to kill bacteria. Rumor has it, that a splash of vinegar in your laundry also helps to soften clothes!

Whether you hand wash your clothes or toss them into the laundry machine, there are times when they come out feeling super stiff. The reason is often that there is residual soap or detergent in your clothes. So vinegar (an acid) actually helps to dissolve some of this residue, leaving your clothes soft and freshly scented. Who doesn’t love that?

Now, you may be wondering, if I can just use at-home vinegar, why purchase a $12 bottle of it? True, I’m a bit of a spendthrift myself and have come up with a few cheaper alternatives of my own. (Hint: I will share about these recipes in a later post) However, I love their fragrance and find it hard to recreate myself. Their scent (No. 247) is a blend of eucalyptus with notes of florals and lavender, a heavenly aroma made better with essential oils. And a bit of an extra detail, but their packaging is so darn cute!

APPLICATION #1: USE SCENTED VINEGAR TO CLEAN YOUR YOGA MAT!

The reason vinegar is so good at deodorizing is that it kills bacteria. (Bacterial build-up is what actually causes bad smell) Scented Vinegar has been my go-to product in terms of scrubbing down my yoga mat after a sweaty workout. Not only does it leave an amazing smell, but my mat actually feels a lot cleaner too.

Pro Tip: if you don’t want to spend money on this, you can also make a similar version yourself which I cover in this post.

APPLICATION #2: DEODORIZE YOUR CLOTHES.

For clothes or any textiles that I put close to my skin (e.g. pillowcase), I soak them in Scented Vinegar for 30-mins. Usually, these are the pieces that contact body oils and sweat the most, so I use vinegar to get rid of any stubborn odors. It works well on aprons, or other clothes that may have soaked a lot of grease from cooking or other foods. (Some fabrics actually attract odors more easily than others) Afterwards, I gently hand-wash them with detergent.

Note: You can also add Scented Vinegar in the rinse cycle, if you choose to wash your clothes using a laundry machine. See The Laundress’ blog post on how to ‘Incorporate Scented Vinegar Into Your Laundry Routine.’

APPLICATION #3: WIPE DOWN KITCHEN SURFACES.

The instructions tell you not to use Scented Vinegar on marble and limestone, but most other surfaces are a go. Stove tops, counter, sink basin, you name it! Because the ingredients are mostly water, vinegar, and essential oils, I feel a lot safer using the solution in areas where I prepare food.

And that’s all! Super simple, and quick walk-through. I hope you will consider using Scented Vinegar in your laundry or cleaning routine. There are many other creative ways to repurpose this solution for other uses, which you can read up on here.
