One of my pet peeves in the morning is feeling stuck on what to wear for the day. For me, this can range anywhere from 15 – 30 minutes wasted on building an outfit, which is precious time I could spend on other things. So to change this pattern, I documented 3 easy summer outfit formulas I really love, and in this post, I share how you can recreate them with pieces from your current wardrobe.
White Jeans | Pointed Toe Flats | Off White Tweed Jacket | Jumpsuit
Bags (Left to Right): Quilted Backpack | Crossbody Bag | Shoulder Bag
Outfit 1: Casual Dress + Elevated Jacket
One outfit formula that I find effortless and chic is pairing together a daytime dress with an elevated jacket. These two pieces balance each other nicely, and give you an extra layer in case you need it during chillier days. In this example, I wore a floral a-line dress with my favorite tweed jacket (worn in the spring HERE).
What makes a jacket look elevated? I look for something that has texture, or nice hardware to distinguish it from a more casual design. My tweed jacket is a great example of that, and the gold buttons definitely add a classy touch.
To finish this outfit off, I wore neutral flats and a classy crossbody bag. In my outfit, I wore huaraches from Nisolo (use STYLEDBYSCIENCE for 20% off), and my MZ Wallace Pearl crossbody. This lightweight purse comes with a gold strap that goes well with dressier outfits.
Outfit 2: Blouse with Wide Leg Jeans
Another easy summer outfit formula is a blouse and (white) wide leg jeans. I wore this outfit when the weather was slightly colder, but feel free to swap out the long sleeve blouse with a tank top or short-sleeved top. In this look, I also picked a quilted denim lady jacket from Ba&sh, but linking some similar options below.
Because this jacket is cropped, it creates a nice leg-lengthening effect with my high-waisted wide leg jeans. This flattering balance of proportions is known as the Rule of Thirds styling tip. My jacket and blouse take up ~1/3 of this look, while my high-waisted jeans take the remaining 2/3.
Then to complete the outfit, I wore my MZ Wallace Metro Convertible Backpack, which holds a lot for days I need to bring my laptop (e.g. for work). Yet it still looks as stylish as it is practical. I also wore pointed toe shoes (heels optional). This toe shape adds nice structure to the outfit, and makes you look even taller.
Outfit 3: Swingy Jumpsuit + Denim Jacket
In the last of my easy summer outfit formulas, I wanted to share about the jumpsuit and denim jacket combination. The one I wear here is from Aritzia, and it felt like a splurge at the time for $80. But it has easily become a frequently recached for item. Quince offers a more affordable and very similar version, which I also link below. Main difference is the Quince version does NOT have adjustable straps.
This swingy Tencel jumpsuit is soft and breathable, and perfect for days when you can’t bother to pair your top and bottom. You can complete this outfit with a denim jacket, and a pair of sandals. I chose one with a heel just to make my outfit slightly dressier, but you can swap it out for sneakers if you wanted too.
For the bag, I am wearing the MZ Wallace Bowery Shoulder bag. I reviewed this style in my earlier post, and my favorite feature is the soft, cushioned leather strap.
