“Even in the smallest closets, space can be found.” Isn’t it cute that The Container Store prints this quote at the bottom of their hanger packs? I have lived in NYC almost all my life. As many apartment dwellers will confirm, having ample closet space is a luxury here. I wanted to become more intentional about my closet space, and had a fun time researching all my options. Here are a few hangers for small closets that I have tried and recommend. Bonus: if you read until the end, I highlight an eco-friendly clothes hanger too!

I will walk through all the hangers currently on this rack. But if you are looking for a small clothing rack, I purchased mine HERE. It’s a more compact version compared to the one I’ve seen all over Instagram. However, I love that there are shelves at the top for decor, and at the bottom for shoes.
First product is the exact match to the one I shared. The following ones are similar options that vary based on shelf space. And now onto my recommendations of hangers for small closets…
I will say, I was quite proud of my judgments because I bought these at The Container Store without reading any reviews beforehand. However, I’ve loved using all of these so far, and they have excellent reviews (4+ stars)!
If you have a small closet, this blouse and shirt hanger is a life saver. I used to use solely plastic hangers, which can only fit one shirt at a time. This compact hanger allows you to hang 6 at once, and the vertical alignment saves so much space. Features I love:
I wouldn’t say this one necessarily saves space. However, you only need a few wooden hangers. Specifically, I like to use them for heavier pieces, like my wool coat. These natural wooden hangers I found are super heavy duty, and I chose the ones with the ribbed bar, so they can be used to hang sets as well (e.g. suit + trousers).
Same material as the first hanger I shared, except it can hold 4 pairs of trousers at once. Love that the arms have a protective layer throughout to prevent the pants from sliding. However, I personally find these helpful for hanging scarves too.
Each arm can also be lifted and slides outward, which makes grabbing your clothes a lot easier.
When I first saw these in The Container Store, the color was what drew my attention. I love the light blue color, and was even more excited to see that these hangers are made from a mix of polypropylene and plant-based material. Polypropylene is not biodegradable. However, the use of natural materials at least reduces the amount of petroleum needed to make clothes hangers.
Some more food for thought on this topic, see my Instagram post HERE: ‘Are clothes hangers the plastic straws of the fashion industry?’ There are definitely not many (if any) environmentally-friendly clothes hangers out there that are also sturdy. So I consider this one a pretty good find.
Another favorite of mine. I loved these skirt and pants hangers because the clips have a non-slip coating. In addition, this feature prevents the clips from leaving scuff marks on my skirts. I have been saddened every winter to find that my old hangers would leave permanent marks when I hung them for too long. These flat-headed, rubberized clips have left no marks so far on my most delicate pieces.
Next, these hangers are stackable! If you notice the hook in the middle, it is for you to link multiple ones together. I think that design is so clever.
You can hang two pieces on these rubberized hangers, one along the curvature and another along the ribbed bar. I honestly got these because I loved the blush pink color. However, another benefit is that these hangers are made from a special plastic called ABS.
Apparently this material is what Legos are made from!! On top of that, these plastic hangers have a smooth rubberized finish that is super anti-slip.
I’m not organization expert, and the focus of my blog continues to be on materials. However, I am always open to sharing about topics relevant to my current life stage even if they fall slightly outside of my realm. So to summarize, there are the hangers for small closets that I highly recommend if you are short on space.
Happy organizing! Are any of these products new to you? Please let me know if you give any a try.
