It is hard to believe we are already in August, and with a month left in the season, I wanted to share about the affordable high-quality basics from Quince that I’ve loved wearing this summer. September can be a tricky month to dress for as the weather starts to cool. But luckily, I can see myself wearing some of these basics across seasons too.

What is Quince, and How Does their Pricing Work?
Quince is a fashion brand with a simplified supply chain model. All products are factory-to-consumer, which helps them to avoid high mark-ups associated with traditional retailers. As such, you will notice most pieces are under $200, with comparable quality to higher-end brands. I first wrote about the brand in 2020 (HERE) when I purchased their cashmere turtleneck sweater dress.
Since then, Quince has expanded their catalog to many other styles, some of which I have worn often this summer. Below are some of my favorite affordable high-quality basics, all under $50!

Quince Review: Fit & Flare Tencel Dress
Tencel is one of my favorite sustainable fabrics for the summertime, as it is super soft and breathable. The fiber comes from responsibly-managed forests, and the production process is optimized to recover chemical inputs for future usage. I have tried both the Quince Tencel Fit & Flare Dress in the mini and maxi length.
Tencel Fit & Flare Dress (Dark Olive – XS in both): Mini Length | Maxi Length
- Dresses come with pockets.
- Fabric is stretchy, fitted, and swingy. Fits true to size (wearing XS).
- Maxi Length: While I find the look of this one more elegant, the skirt is heavy and it weighs down the neckline. The issue would be solved with a thicker fabric in the bodice, and more stabilizing waistline. Just one consideration for an otherwise beautiful dress.
- Mini Length: I am 5’6″ and the dress did not feel too short (in case fly-aways are a concern).
Quince also has a jumpsuit in this same fabric. I have the same version from Aritzia (their Market Jumpsuit) and the price difference comes down to a few things:
- Quince fabric is thinner, but can be expected given the lower price.
- Aritzia jumpsuit has adjustable straps, which the Quince version does not.
- Color choices: Quince leans more basic, while Aritiza has more neutral tones. More recently, however, Quince did add a lovely Wine color!
Affordable High-Quality Basics: Quince Sweater Tank
The fitted sweater tank is such a versatile piece that can be styled across seasons, and paired with so many different bottoms. In this look, I styled it with their linen shorts for an effortlessly chic and cooling summer combination. For bolder looks, Quince also offers this fabric in a few different necklines: one-shoulder, and halter.
- Fabric is thick, and stretchy. Runs a little small (wearing XS, but could have sized up to S, given how fitted it is)
- Great piece that tucks well under shorts, skirts, jeans, or trousers.
- Be wary of snags as this fabric is a ribbed nylon knit.

Quince Linen Drawstring Shorts Review
Unpopular Opinion: I am not the hugest fan of linen due to how easily the material wrinkles. However, I love how breezy the material is. So one way I work around it is by choosing darker colors or prints to make creases less apparent. Their Navy shorts make the perfect cover-up or beach outfit, but I love that I can build casual summer outfits with it too.
Favorite Affordable High-Quality Basics from Quince
I am hoping to create another post in the wintertime on their knits. However, I was satisfied with the quality of these basics I received for the summer. If you are looking for affordable high-quality basics, Quince is a great place to look as they are always expanding their assortment.
Note: Some of their popular styles sell out quickly, so I would recommend joining their email waitlist. It works, and I have found that things do get stocked frequently, or reappear in newer colors!
