Vivaia Sneaker Review: Are Ballerina Sneakers (‘Sneakerina’) Practical?

One of my biggest outfit struggles is wanting to put together a polished look, but not having the comfortable shoes to go with it. But comfort and style do not always have to be at odds with each other. My favorite 2025 shoes purchase were my Mary Jane Rothy’s (review HERE). With the cooler weather ahead, I was hoping to find a closed toe style that is just as versatile. Vivaia is an up-and-coming brand known for their cushioned flats, but when I learned about their new ‘Sneakerina‘ (ballet flat + sneaker hybrid), I was so curious to try! Are these sneakers the solution to my outfit dilemma? Keep reading for my honest Vivaia sneaker review.

Vivaia Jogger Re-Nylon Sneakerina Review

I put my shoes to the test during my latest trip to Italy, and the detail that struck me the most is how lightweight they are. These ‘sneakerina‘ joggers are truly the hybrid between ballet flats and sneakers, with a more cushioned and softer insole. This pair also comes with 2 lace types: (1) organza shoelace, (2) elasticized shoelace. The organza lace adds a nice feminine touch, while the elasticized shoelace offers comfort with your step and accommodates different feet widths.

These sneakers also have an elasticized back. I was originally nervous they would feel too tight on the back of my ankles, but ended up having no issues. These shoes ran true to size for me.

Machine-Washability of Vivaia Sneakers

One thing that drew me to the Vivaia Jogger Re-Nylon Sneakerina is that they are machine-washable! It’s probably not the best idea that I wore light-colored sneakers on a trip. We even did a truffle-hunting trip in Tuscany on a rainy day, and as you can imagine, these shoes came back thoroughly stained. If you find cleaning your shoes a hassle, then I probably wouldn’t recommend the lighter colors because they dirty very easily.

Once I came back from my trip, I thew my Sneakerina’s into the washing machine. I like washing it with things like my shower curtain, and bathroom mat. The thought of mixing sneakers with clothes in the laundry is a big no-no for me. Here’s how they turned out – good as new, and no signs of damage.

Things to Note About Comfort

The Vivaia Sneakerinas are a great versatile pair that gets the job done if you’re walking no more than 5-miles a day on smooth roads. However, I made the mistake of traveling through Rome in them, and after a while, my feet felt tired going through so many cobblestone roads. I began to feel the uneven surface with every step, and desperately craved the comfort of other supportive sneakers I owned (like my New Balance 327s).

So to temper your expectations, Sneakerinas are an excellent concept, but don’t expect them to replace the comfort and supportiveness of actual sneakers! There is minimal arch support, and pretty much no heel height.

These sneakers also come with a grippy rubber outsole, but I found it slippery on extremely smooth surfaces.

Vivaia Sneaker Review: Other Styles I Tried

Prior to ordering my sneakers online, I actually visited the SoHo store to try on for fit. The first pair I tested was actually the Lace-Up Mesh Sneakers. I adored their pink-beige color, and was close to getting this pair. Unfortunately, after looking in the mirror, I couldn’t help but notice how close the color was to my own skin, and decided to go with something that was more cooler toned.

This pair is also machine-washable, true-to-size, and a great option if you’re looking for something breathable.

The final style I tried for this Vivaia sneaker review are these Square Toe Lace-Up Satin Sneakers. Choose this pair if you are going for the ballerina look. I think the pink color is so pretty! However, I know satin does not hide stains well, so for me, this material was a no. Additionally, I read in the reviews that the satin creases after walking, so that is another consideration before you buy this style.

The Verdict on the Vivaia Sneakerina: Are they practical?

I think Vivaia’s idea of a ‘sneakerina’ is genius! Their jogger sneakerina has a sleek and versatile look that allows it to be styled easily with dresses, skirts, and pretty much any look. However, they may not be the best fit for every walking occasion due to their limited arch and sole support. On days with just a little bit of walking, I think they are a great choice!
