4 Spring Jackets that Go With Everything: Classy Coats You Need

Springtime always turns me into a seasonal optimist. I get eager to break out my lighter coats, only to learn my lesson on how deceptively cold it is out. Dressing for Spring is super tricky because the temperatures vary so much month-to-month. But one thing that makes getting dressed easier is having a good capsule of spring jackets that go with everything. It has taken me some time to edit this collection to just a few pieces I feel good about. Here are the 4 trusty spring jackets you need to build a classy look.

Spring Jacket #1: A Soft Trench Coat

Emphasis on soft. When most people think of a spring jacket, the first thing that comes to mind is the structured khaki trench coat. I adore this classic piece, but I also find it a bit formal and hard to dress with casual outfits. One way to introduce versatility is picking a soft trench coat.

Instead of being 100% cotton, soft trench coats usually contain a blend of polyester or viscose to add a little more drape. More recently, even athleisure brands like Athleta and Alo Yoga have started coming out with sportier forms of this look. My current favorite soft trench is this Theory one: classy in every color, and the perfect layer for a lukewarm Spring day.

Spring Jacket #2: The Lady Jacket

Defined by a straight cut and collarless look, the Lady Jacket is a simple yet classy piece. I love that this jacket can be worn with trousers for a workwear outfit, but also styled with jeans for something more laidback. You can also easily swap the inner layer for a t-shirt of sweater to accommodate for the fluctuating spring weather. There are several variations of the Lady Jacket, and I love the sweater/cardigan versions of it too!

Spring Jacket #3: A Tweed or Textured Blazer

Last year, I purchased a tweed jacket, feeling uncertain if I could style it enough ways. However, it ended up being one of my most-worn purchases in 2023, and I can’t recommend one enough! A tweed blazer always looks elevated. You can style it with jeans or trousers, but I also love how it looks over a dress. There are truly so many options, and if you want to keep a more casual base outfit, this blazer gives you everything you need to look sharp.

Spring Jacket #4: Cropped Trench Coat

This piece needs no introduction, as it has been super popular this year. I recently reviewed mine in a post HERE. I love this modern take on the traditional trench coat. The cropped and boxier version makes it chic and sporty, with endless style possibilities. My favorite lazy-day look is paring a cropped trench coat with flare leggings and sneakers. However, you can also dress it up with a satin skirt, or fit-and-flare dress.
