4 Chic Ways to Style the Sezane Betty Cardigan

During my trip to Paris, I purchased my first-ever Sezane piece. This brand needs no introduction, due to how much popularity it has gained in recent years. Sezane is a Parisian brand know for its dainty, feminine pieces. While I have done away with delicate blouses that require a lot of care, their Betty Cardigan is one of those easy pieces that quickly caught my attention. I was able to find the color I wanted (Rosewood) in-stock at the Bon Marché department store—think of it as the French version of ‘Nordstrom.’ So this post is my fit review of the Sezane Betty Cardigan, and 4 easy ways to style it!

Sezane Betty Cardigan: Fabric & Fit Review

The Betty Cardigan is one of Sezane’s most versatile pieces that comes in plenty of colors, and can be easily styled in so many ways.

Fabric: Although I’ve heard that some of the brand’s knits can be itchy, this cardigan is made from 100% Merino Wool. The fabric is pretty smooth, making it less prone to pilling and comfortable against the skin. Wool does not need to be washed super often since it is naturally odor resistant. As such, I am planning to hand-wash it at the end of the season. You can read my related fabric care posts here.

Fit: I tried both the XS and S in stores, and would definitely recommend sizing up. This cardigan has a slightly cropped, boxy fit and the shoulder width runs small. I found that XS looked too fitted on me, and did not leave much room for layering.

Care: For delicate fabrics, I hand-wash in basin over the sink with my favorite wool-friendly detergent from Dirty Labs (use code SBS10 for 10% off). Use cold water, and air-dry flat.

Style Option 1: Sezane Betty Cardigan + Dress or Jumpsuit

What I love about the Betty Cardigan is you can wear it both buttoned or unbuttoned. As an open cardigan, it looks great over a dress or jumpsuit, especially one with a higher, defined waistline. The slightly cropped length helps to achieve the perfect ‘Rule of Thirds’ principle for a flattering outfit. To complete the look, pair with a small block heel or pointed-toe flat.

Style Option 2: Cardigan + Blue Jeans

If you’re opting for a more casual look, this polished cardigan also looks great with blue jeans. I styled it with straight leg jeans, and neutral sneakers. Straight-leg jeans are impossibly hard for me to shop for, and this pair actually looked decent on me. If you want to pair it with skinny jeans instead, I’d recommend a narrower sneaker like the Veja V-10.

Cardigan – S | Straight Jeans: US 2 (I normally wear a 25), European Size 34

Style Option 3: Cardigan + Slip Skirt

Cardigan – S | Skirt: S – runs a tad small; if you’re in between sizes, choose the bigger one | Shoes

When in doubt, choose monochrome! I have a slip skirt that is a few shades deeper than my cardigan, but they still look lovely together. My slip skirt is from Darling (brand review HERE). This brand has high-quality capsule wardrobe pieces that have consistently fit me well. I also love that the skirt has a durable, well-sewn elastic waistband that actually stays put.

For shoes, you have several options. The look that feels most polished and comfortable is a pair of pointed toe slingbacks, or Mary Janes. Otherwise, you can also pair this outfit with an ankle boot that has a taller shaft, or fitted over-the-knee boots.

Style Option 4: Cardigan + Crop Flare / Knit Pant

This outfit is more of an in-between for casual and dressy. You substitute the crop flare jeans for a knit lounge pant, or flared leggings if you want something more casual. I love completing this look with my favorite pointed-toe slingbacks. If you like the look of heels but can’t find yourself walking long distances in them, then these shoes are for you!

I reviewed them last Spring HERE, and they are truly the comfiest ‘dressy’ shoes I own in two colors: beige, and black. Another option in the Fall and Winter is wearing them with heeled ankle boots.
