One of the highlights from my Korea trip last year was getting my color analysis done. And not surprisingly, the results aligned with how I normally dress: pale pastels, and cooler tones. However, this year I decided to experiment with a new color that it outside the realm of what I normally own: dark chocolate. This color is rich and elegant, but I’ve only admired it on other people. However, having given this color a try, I am definitely warming up to darker tones. Read the post on how to style dark brown for spring.

This cotton cashmere midi dress is one of the newest adds to my wardrobe. The ribbed design offers a nice, natural stretch while not feeling too constricting. I love how easy this dress is to slip on and off. Best of all, it’s just the right thickness for spring and looks great with a lady jacket, cardigan, or cropped trench coat.
I am wearing a size S, and deliberately sized up so that this dress wouldn’t feel too fitted.
Cropped Trench Coat – water resistant and wind proof! Additional ways to style featured in this blog post.
Another great transitional style for spring is layering a sweater over a thin button-down. I also like styling this combination with cropped ankle-length trousers and Mary Jane flats. The subtle cropped length accentuates the shoes, and Rothy’s latest double-strap Mary Jane design is so cute! Read my old Rothy’s review HERE.
These flats run slightly big, and I sized a half step down from my usual. My trousers are from Spanx’s latest ponte collection – compressive, smooth knit, with leggings-like comfort! I sized up for these and am wearing S.
You can also pair these trousers with a tweed jacket, and fitted bodysuit. I like that topping off this outfit with a lighter colored jacket offers nice contrast. Alternatively, you can style with a lady cardigan too!
If you’re looking for more options on how to style dark brown, consider pairing it with navy. I’ve seen this color combination on others, and decided to replicate it myself. My silk satin skirt is also machine-washable, and low-fuss for how elegant it looks. I am wearing a size XS in this skirt, and would recommend sizing down if you have a smaller waist.
I used to think this color was hard to style or fell outside of my natural color palette. However, when accentuated with contrasting pieces, dark brown can make such a lovely neutral! Below is an outfit collage of all the combinations I shared in this post. You can click on the image directly to shop individually linked pieces.
